A Season of Giving

December 12, 2018

So Christmas is coming soon and I'm sure you are still scrambling to find that perfect gift for loved ones and friends.

I know I am.

It's hard to have self-control when you see something at Target and think, "oooo they would really like that!" I'm realizing now that having a job with actual money makes it harder to spend less during the holidays.....

I've spent too much.

But, my spending is coming from a place of wanting to give those I love something really special. The more I grow up, the more I just want to give presents away to people. I don't really want anything for myself anymore, It's more enjoyable to see someone happy over the gift I had found, bought, and wrapped for them. I want to get them gifts that say thank you for who you are, for what you do, and for how much you mean to me.

Trying to find the right gift to say all of that is hard to find! In fact, it's basically impossible.

There are not enough things in this world that I could buy that would say all of those things to someone I love. I want to give my mom every wonderful thing I could buy to say thank you for all the ways she supports me.

But, I don't have that kind of money.

I want to give my niece, Zoey, all of the life lessons I've learned for when she grows up to be the beautiful girl I already see that she is.

But, I could never write them all down.

In all of these things I remember my finite giving will never be enough.

But then I remember the one who gave everything for us.

He didn't settle for superficial items you find at a store.

He didn't have to be limited in his giving because of the amount of money he had.

He gave us the PERFECT gift. And that gift WAS enough.

Jesus being born was the ultimate present for everyone. He will always be the gift that people NEED even if they don't want it.

This gift outshines all other gifts that have ever been given on this earth.

And WE get to have this gift forever. Not only was the ultimate gift God sending his son Jesus down to earth to dwell and live among his people. But, that same son paid the ultimate price later in his life to die for OUR sins.

When I think I can buy that one last gift for someone I love to seal the perfect gift, I remember that gift was already given.

And that is SUCH a relief. I could never get anything even close to what God gave us that night in Bethlehem.

So when  you are feeling bombarded with receipts that are piling up, gifts that need to be wrapped, and feeling like you didn't get enough-Remember that you don't have the best gift. You never will.

It's already been given.

"I am leaving you with a gift- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid."  ~ Jesus
